So, you've found something interesting and want to share it with your forum-mates, but don't know how to take a screenshot?
Fear not! This guide will explain is excruciatingly precise detail how to capture, edit, and upload a proper screenshot, whether it be of something in a game or something weird that happened on another website.
Step 1: Taking the screenshotYour standard keyboard is illustrated below. Surrounded by bright blue paint is the "Print Screen" button, which is located to the right of your F12 key and to the left of your Scroll Lock key. By pressing the Print Screen key, your computer will capture an image of everything that is currently on your screen except for your mouse cursor.
NOTE: You must make sure that the subject you want to capture is visible on your screen. Things that are at the bottom of the page that you must scroll to that are NOT on your screen will not be captured in your screenshot.
Step 2: Editing the screenshotFor this step, I am assuming that you have Microsoft Paint. This application is a very, VERY basic image editor that comes with all recent versions of Windows. Most people can find it by pressing "Start", hovering over "All Programs", and searching within their Accessories folder. However, some people may need to search the confines of their hard drive for it, as Windows can be weird and move its standard applications around sometimes.
The majority of the editing that you will be doing is cropping your screenshot to show JUST your subject, and not everything else that you might have captured. To do this, use the "Selection" tool and make a box around your main subject, then simultaneously hold on "Control" and "C" on your keyboard to copy the highlighted area.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RIGHT CLICK AND COPY, IT WILL DESELECT THE AREA THAT YOU HIGHLIGHTED.After you have copied the selection, close out of the image you copied the selection from so that you are back to the main, gray screen of Microsoft Paint. Simultaneously press "Control" and "V" on your keyboard to paste the selection you copied. Save this new image in a place where you can remember, and close out of Microsoft Paint.
Step 3: Uploading the screenshotUse this website to upload your screenshot, and once it is uploaded, highlight and copy the code that is surrounded in [IMG] tags, and post it in your next post to brag about your accomplishment (or failure).
